With the Icarus roof conversion from Alu-Cab from South Africa, a Land Rover Defender can be easily converted into a motorhome. With the roof open, there is a headroom of up to 2.80 m. If the two-part bed surface is folded down, you get a bed that is up to 2.55 m long and can be reached from inside the vehicle for more sleeping comfort. Three spacious openings equipped with mosquito nets ensure a good view and a pleasant stay in the roof tent. The rear entrance is provided with a shading and rain-proof canopy. Several LED reading lamps and lights provide illumination at night.

The new version of the roof conversion developed together with Genesis Import for the requirements of the European market, is made of 2 mm thick aluminum and is based on the design language of the original roof. Integrated tubular struts provide additional stability and the C-rails on the roof make it very easy to mount accessories. The quilted headliner is equipped with insulating foam. From the 2019 season, the Icarus will also be made with the two-layer 400g/mm Riplock tent fabric that is used in the other Alu-Cab tents. Thanks to the three-layer tent fabric with a polyurethane membrane and stretch function, the tent does not flap in the wind and is opaque and waterproof. The lifting roof can be opened in a few seconds using the gas pressure springs. A circumferential elastic band makes it easier to close.

Only the original roof of the Land Rover Defender needs to be unscrewed and removed for installation. Then the  Icarus roof conversion is put on and screwed on. This means that you can switch back to the original roof at any time and install the pop-up roof on another Defender.

The roof conversion comes with all the necessary brackets for mounting between the Defender and the pop-up roof.

The Icarus roof conversion is 180 mm higher than the original roof and weighs approx. 130 kg. This results in a net additional weight of only approx. 70 kg. This is usually less than a conventional roof tent with crossbars.

The roof conversion is available in black and Defender white as standard. The 270-degree awning can only be mounted on the left of the Defender.

Thanks to the rain gutter, existing roof racks can also be mounted on the  Icarus roof conversion.
